The International Data Corp (IDC) reports that the growth in the mobile
phone market is stagnating and that this year, growth will be below 10%.
Last year, 1.1 billion phones where sold. That was an increase of 12,4% over 2006. Though Christmas is normally a strong period of sales, the market grew only 11.6%, which is below the average of the full year. Normally the growth during Christmas is between 18% and 30%.
IDC also stated that Samsung showed the biggest growth last year. We reported before that Samsung overtook Motorola in sales and so, claimed the second place in the global sales charts. IDC confirms that Samsung grew four times faster than the market. Nokia will remain the biggest with a market share around 40%.
