Media company Hill Holiday has been visited by representatives from Apple (incl. former Quattro CEO Andy Miller) that gave the company some interesting insights into how the new iAd platform will work for media agencies.
The first interesting bit that came to light is that the iAd platform/team will be building the first ads in HTML 5. As soon as it is ready, an iAd SDK will be released so media companies can build their own ads on the platform.
The experience with the iAd ads is very positive. The way the iAd system is build is that it pauses the app you are using when you tap on a banner. Miss-taps are probably the biggest frustration in regards to in-game ads. It also introduces a fundamental difference between iAd and other advertising methods for the iPhone. Only one banner will be shown at a time and developers can place it at the top or bottom of their app.
