I-Play Doubles Internal Development Capacity

June 3rd, 2007 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Companies & M&A | 1 Comment »

IplayMobileIndustry reports that I-Play will get a growth boost from their acquisition by Oberon Media last week to enhance their position in the mobile games market.

Oberon will not only ensure fresh funding to the British publisher, but also make available content and distribution advantages and nearly double the internal development capacity. Also, through Oberon Media, I-Play gains access to the D2C market in which competitors like Gameloft have been experimenting for a lot of time already.

Oberon boss TOmer Ben-Kiki explains there is little overlap between the two companies which means job cuts are unlikely (which means that the personnel left from the acquisition of Blaze last year merges in perfectly). Also the Oberon media boss explains that Oberon will continue to invest and upscale its mobile division which might be the sign that I-Play will not be their last acquisition in our market.
