HP Makes WebOS 2.0 Official

October 20th, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: WebOS | No Comments »

As soon as SFR leaked the new WebOS 2 devices, rumors said an official introduction from Palm could not be far away. Yesterday, HP took the time to explain their next steps with WebOS and WebOS devices.

Just like the first batch of Palm devices, the new devices will not see a global launch. HP will be delivering the devices to the US, France and Canada first before committing to a bigger roll-out. The Palm Pre 2 receives a new 3.1” screen at 320×480 pixels. It will have a 5MP camera and full qwerty. It will come with 16GB memory on board (probably to battle the Windows Phone devices) and a 1Ghz CPU.

WebOS 2.0 will also undergo a namechange. From now on, the OS will be called HP WebOS. HP WebOS will have a deeper integration with social networks and support multitasking as well as apps running on Flash 10.1.

The French (GSM) version of the device will be launching in about two weeks. The CDMA launches will take ‘a couple of months’.
