ICS’ FreeAppADay.com portal has gotten some stiff competition from developer Qwiboo who is releasing a similar concept under a similar name. The only difference? GreatAppADay is also free for the developers.
The FreeAppADay.com service has already created a solid userbase and has been monetizing that since late January as developers have to pay for giving their game away during a 24 hour period. Due to the controversy about that, ICS tweaked this strategy a few times in the past.
Due to the financial downside of FreeAppADay, Qwiboo thinks a lot of indie developers don’t get a chance at enjoying such promotions for their games. As so, he copied the model to GreatAppADay.com but is offering the service for free.
