If rumours are right, Google is set to launch its new Google Drive service along next week. With the launch of Google Drive, the giant is finally launching its own storage service to battle those of Dropbox, Box.net and of course Microsoft. Why is this important to mobile developers?
Of course, Google will be releasing apps to access Google Drive directly from PC, Mac, iOS and Android. But it will also release API’s for (mobile) developers to integrate the storage services into their apps. Just like Dropbox and Box.net have.
Google is likely to provide consumers with 5GB of storage space on their servers. That’s 3GB more than a new Dropbox account (unless you use an HTC device which provides you with a 21GB bonus) and the same amount as a standard Box.net account (unless you register on Android and get that 45GB bonus).
