To fight Piracy on the Android Market, Google has introduced a new licensing service. Developers can use the licensing service to let their apps check if the phone they run on belongs to a registered buyer of the app.
The licensing service is a real-time public/private key based system, meaning the app can check it’s status at any given time. This allows developers the freedom to implement all sorts of licensing strategies and works on Android versions 1.5 and above. Google does advice to cache the license status as apps would malfunction when a consumer is roaming without data traffic or in flight mode.
Though the service sounds like an additional step, Google said it will be replacing current copy protection systems along the next months. This means developers of paid apps will have to update their code.
Congratulations
