Google Announces Android NDK 3.0

March 10th, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: AndroidOS | No Comments »

Android Google has announced the third installment of the Android Native Development Kit (NDK). With this version, developers will be allowed to make use of OpenGL ES 2.0 for the rendering of 3D content.

The only restriction to the use of OpenGL ES 2.0 is the availability of 3D rendering hardware. Devices like the Motorola Milestone already have the right GPU but many older and cheap Android phones might lack support. The popular HTC Hero is one of those devices that will not be able to handle the graphics. More info is available here.
