Glu Extends PopCap Games Licensing Deal

July 24th, 2007 by Anonymous Blogger Posted in Brand Licensing | No Comments »

GluGlu has announced the extension of their partnership with PopCap Games to continue distributing several key mobile titles from PopCap.

PopcapgamesThe extended licensing deal includes Zuma, Astropop and Insaniquarium, three of PopCap’s most interesting titles that have been brought to mobile to date. With the extended license, Glu keeps hold of some of the most famous casual (mobile) games, a piece market where I-Play has been very active. Zuma is even one of the best selling titles in the Glu catalogue. Let’s see if this news will work positively on the recent drop in stock value (GLUU) from this publisher.

“PopCap has pioneered the online casual game space and was one of the first online developers to recognize that mobile is a logical extension for online titles and would be key to extending consumer awareness and adoption,” said Jill Braff, senior vice president of global publishing, Glu. “We’ve seen both commercial and critical success in the games we’ve published for mobile, and we look forward to continued success with bringing these great games to a growing global audience of mobile gamers.”

“Casual games have proven to be among the most successful genres on the mobile platform,” said Jason Kapalka, co-founder and chief creative officer, PopCap Games. “Glu has demonstrated studio capabilities and strong deployment and carrier relationships worldwide, and we look forward to continuing to bring these great titles to mobile consumers worldwide.”
