Global App Store Pricing Down

March 23rd, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: AndroidOS, Platforms: BlackBerry, Platforms: iOS, Platforms: Windows Mobile | No Comments »

Distimo In Distimo’s latest report, the company ranks the prices of the different app stores and markets against each other. Though App Store prices are declining everywhere, there are some interesting differences.

The iPhone App Store and Android Market are the cheapest app stores, retailing apps at an average $2,10~$2,20 price point. Windows Marketplace is the most expensive channel with a $4,91 average. In some cases, the developers are not to blame for a channel being expensive. BlackBerry for example doesn’t allow Apps to be sold below $2,99.

Looking at the iTunes App Store, the most popular category remains puzzles at 15%, followed by Action and Arcade at 11%. When checking the most expensive categories, we see totally different categories taking the lead. The most expensive mobile games can be found in the Role Playing category ($7,96). Second is the Adventure category ($4.43) and third place is for racing ($2.59).

Most money is made with Action games. That category ranks first in the top grossing chart with 22%. Second comes Arcade at 12% and Adventure at 9%.
