Carl Freer said in interview that the Gizmondo would be ready before Christmas 2008. In the latest interview, he admits that it will not be there in time. It's the financial crisis which killed the timely release of what could be the best mobile gaming device.
This news comes from Hans Sandberg, a blogger close to Carl Freer. The Gizmondo flopped a few years ago, which made it very interesting for us to hear that it would be back in 2008.
"We’ve had some very, very 'touch and go' moments here for three months. It has affected everyone. I was at one point thinking of abandoning the whole project, because I didn’t see a way out of it; a way to fund it. I don’t have half a billion dollars or 300 million dollars. You can only try and do your best,"
Due to problems at the original manufacturer, Carl is looking for a new one. This means that Gizmondo will probably not be what it was. Instead, it might turn out to be a normal smartphone in the end, with a big graphics chip as the bonus. Still interesting, but personally I would have preferred to have a real Gizmondo in my personal console collection (I never got my hands on one in the Dutch market). The device will probably be available with Windows CE or Android.
