GetJar announced that it topped 400m mobile app downloads, and in the last month saw a 200% increase iyear-on-year. The company also released survey results taken from over 15,000 of its users, revealing global changes in consumer behavior.
Currently, the portal is generating over 30 million downloads a month. GetJar is supporting over 1,300 mobile handsets to date. Currently, the top handsets among GetJar users are the Samsung Instinct, LG CU920, BlackBerry Storm, Sony-Ericsson W580i and Nokia 6120 and consumers, 50% downloads an app at least once a week.
According to the company, rapid growth in the use of mobile applications is leading to significant changes in consumer choice and behavior, according to a study carried out. U.S. consumers revealed that they are increasingly using email and messaging apps instead of making voice calls, and now take as much news from their mobile as they do from newspapers and TV. Also 68% said they surf the web more on their mobile than they do on their PC.
Th mobile internet functionality is mostly used before going to bed (at 33%) followed by 27% of respondents saying they use mobile applications whenever they are waiting for someone or something.
GetJar survey respondents also said they are more likely to discover mobile applications and content from friends (36%) or from browsing and search (21%), proving that there is a growing opportunity for mobile advertisers to tap into.
