This morning we came across a booth with Gedda Headz. Though at first they looked like nice (canned) toys, there is actually a full mobile gaming environment behind them that evolves around online play.
The company has released 36 heads that can be collected in Germany (MediaMarkt and Saturn sell them in plastic cans containing 3 heads). Just like with cards, consumers have no idea what they buy until they open them. Afterwards, they can be traded or used within a series of multiplayer games (every head has an id).
The games are both available for the iPhone and J2me handsets. The only problem they face there is that the two can't be combined in online play yet.
When we are back from the event, we will give the games a try and go in depth with the guys behind this product as launching a physical element that is the centre of the mobile game, must be a real challenge.
Congratulations
