Gameloft’s future is 3D

While we noticed a lot of big developers and publishers scaling down in the number of releases in 2006, Gameloft is actually working pretty hard to push out new games in 2007. Gameloft has announced it will launch 20 mobile games in 3D along 2007. At the same time, Gamloft announced it will in the future only bring high quality 3D mobile games.

An interesting detail in the same announcement however is that Gameloft still wants to support every device in the market which they estimate at 800. I wonder how they will work around the old non-JSR models in that case if they want to do only 3D. The last detail I really liked about the announcement is the technology bit. Gameloft will bring their mobile games not only on J2me, but will focus on other 3D platforms like Symbian, Brew, WiPi and Windows Mobile as well.

“The evolution towards advanced 3D games has been gaining momentum over the last couple of years and Gameloft has brought it to the forefront today,” said Michel Guillemot, president, Gameloft. “Thanks to improved telecom networks and terminals, as well as support from our carrier partners, 2007 is the year that Gameloft will mass market high definition 3D games around the globe.”
