With the Beowulf movie entering cinema’s world wide, Gameloft announced the release of the complementary official mobile game. But why the long title?
So why is it called The Official Mobile Game? Well, Beowulf is a folk tale, so there is no real ownership over the IP. Recently, Germany based 4Head Studios quit their development of a Beowulf based game as they couldn’t find a publisher for it as UBI Soft announced a Beowulf game as well that was linked to the movie. 4Head Studio’s could not match the marketing power. In mobile gaming however, the situation is different. Just like the DaVinci movie, more Beowulf games that are not tied to the license can be expected.
“We are proud to translate the exciting thrills of this famous epic to mobile handsets worldwide,” explains Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice president of publishing, Gameloft. “The game not only stimulates players visually, but immerses them into the intense, action-packed world of Beowulf that is sure to intrigue and captivate players for hours.”
“Gameloft captured the essence of the movie and extended the experience that can be played anywhere, anytime allowing consumers to engage in the movie in unique interactive ways,” states Sandi Isaacs, senior vice president of interactive & mobile for Paramount Digital Entertainment.
