First Tizen Devices in H2 2012!?

May 22nd, 2012 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: Tizen | No Comments »

If thing go according to plan, the first devices running Tizen should land in stores in the second half of 2012. Main investors in Tizen, Intel and Samsung, are expected to take the lead in releasing Tizen devices. HTC is rumoured to follow.

While Samsung is expected to take the lead in pushing out smartphones with the Tizen OS (probably replacing Bada), Intel will be pushing Tizen netbooks and perhaps even tablets (since the netbook market is pretty much dead).

Next to Samsung and Intel, the Tizen association gained a large number of new members over de past months. Amongst them are Panasonic, NEC, Orange, Vodafone, Sprint, Telefonica/O2, NTT DoCoMo, Sprint and SK Telecom. Acer, Asus and HTC are rumoured to have applied for membership as well.

HTC is an interesting new partner as the company has always said to bet only on Android and Windows devices. It’s interest in Tizen could signal it’s fear of Google’s domination over the Android OS as it owns Motorola Mobility now.
