Dutch EU commissioner Neelie Kroes has announced that she will be conducting a research on platforms with closed app environments. As an example she explicitly mentioned Appleās App Store.
Kroes said that consumers should be able to choose both hardware and software instead of being locked in to a single provider. She will also investigate other app stores.
Kroes has been very successful with similar cases in the past as she fined both Microsoft and Intel for millions.
