EU Fines D2C Channels over Scams

Europe Following 18 months of investigation on 301 websites that sell mobile content, the EU has decided to fine a large number of direct to consumer channels over ‘Ringtone Scams’.


The websites investigated where accused of unclear pricing (41%), failure to provide contact details (75%) as well as advertising free stuff that isn’t free (35%). According to the EU release, 210 websites have been approached to improve the way they conduct their business. 54 of them actually chose to close down instead.
