Edge vs. Edge Part III

November 16th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial, Platforms: iOS | No Comments »

Mobigame The fight of a developer called Mobigame vs. IGDA’s Tim Langdell seems to have taken a new twist. Several Indie developers are now teaming up to battle the ‘Trademark Troll’ over use of the word Edge.

Tim Langdell has taken on Mobigame over the use of the word ‘Edge’ in the title of their successful iPhone game (read Part I and II). Tim did the same toward developer PuzzleKings where he wrote Apple to ban the ‘Killer Edge’ game from the App Store. At the same time, Tim is still battling with EA over a console game called ‘Mirror’s Edge’.

As a direct result, multiple indie developers have agreed to give Tim Langdell the finger by changing the names of their games in a way so they contain the word Edge. The title Fez was turned into Fedge. Eliss was changed into Edgeliss, Closure was transformed into Closure: On The EDGE Of Reality, Canabalt turned into Canabedge and then there will be Ledge Dismount and Edgeward McEdginton as new titles.
