Edge vs. Edge Part II

July 14th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Brand Licensing | No Comments »

Edge It seems the fight is back on for indie developer MobiGame as the notorious trademark addict Tim Langdell has started threatening the company again over the use of the word Edge.

Meanwhile, the game is still selling in the App Store and has even been picked as a favourite when Apple celebrated the first year of the App Store.

As you probably have read in our first edge vs. edge story, claims might be a primary source of living for Tim Langdell, the co-founder and a board member of the IGDA. His claims have even impacted companies like Capcom and now, with “Mirror's a game by Edge”, he might even start chasing EA.

More details about the latest threats from Tim toward MobiGame can be found over at Fingergaming. More on his claims can be read at Kotaku's story on The Trademark Troll.

Our tribute to the whole story; there is hope for MobiGame! Take this Chinese company that managed to win from Microsoft over the term Windows as it only worked in the context of computers. In 2004, Microsoft even settled with Lindows over the Windows Trademark. We can say the same with Edge as no consumer probably knows Langdells game from 15 years back. Consumers probably only know the name from a games magazine.
