EDGE is probably one of the most on-and-off games on the App Store to date. Following trademark claims from Tim Langdell it was taken offline in several countries, but now it is back!
For those that have missed the story, Tim Langdell (board member of the IGDA and known as The Trademark Troll) has been trying to make money from anyone that uses the word EDGE in a game or anything gaming related. As so, he ordered Apple to take the game EDGE offline and his request was honored. Not too long after, the game came back online in several markets and this weekend it is also back online in the UK and US. With these last two markets re-launching, the game is globally available again.
During one year we had to fight a fraud to release our game in the U.S and in the U.K. Today the justice will take care of him. We fought not only for us, but also for other indies and bigger companies. We were not alone during this year, and we thank all of you for all your efforts. Thanks to US the word “edge” is now free to exist on the App Store like on any other marketplace, and games like Mirror’s Edge, Shadow Edge, Killer Edge Racing or Edge by Mobigame can live on our iDevices.
