Mijn Kind Online, a consumer watchdog organization for children in The Netherlands has sent out a report detailing the youngest mobile consumers in the Netherlands.
The report shows 25% of kids aged 8 years old own a mobile phone. This number makes a steep incline to age 12 when nearly all kids own a mobile phone. Most popular amongst kids are WhatsApp and Ping. One third of the kids with a phone use these on a daily basis. 70% aged 13+ sends out 100+ messages a week over SMS, WhatsApp and Ping. Amazingly, being contact with their mothers is most important to kids.
Most kids are on pre-paid devices, but that changes around the age of 17. In 67% of the cases, parents pay the bill for their kids. 20% of the kids questioned have experienced unwillingly paying for an app or service. In some cases, kids spent over €100 on them.
Congratulations
