Dutch Consumer Authority Sues Vodafone and T-Mobile

January 18th, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial | No Comments »

Consumentenbond Dutch consumer authority ‘Consumentenbond’ has prepared a lawsuit against Vodafone and T-Mobile over the (ab)use of Premium SMS as a billing system. Operators don’t take enough responsibility according to the organization.

The lawsuit which should be deposited today, aims at banning premium SMS from the market as consumers have no control over receiving those messages and complaints aren’t handled well.

Even though the lawsuit is aimed at T-Mobile and Vodafone, the Consumentenbond hopes it will have a positive effect on the whole industry in Holland. Vodafone already noted to the press that it thinks the Consumentenbond has gone too far. Vodafone has been fighting abuse of the system for some time already and currently receives only 1 complaint per week.
