DTG: iPad Beats Connected TV for BBC

March 2nd, 2012 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial, Platforms: iOS | No Comments »

Interesting news from the floor of the Digital TV Group summit in London. We found some info as to how competitive TV sets might become to tablets as the BBC wishes for TV vendors to simplify their products.

Even though there are twice as many connected TV’s with the BBC iPlayer as iPad’s with the app installed, the broadcaster reported that the iPad does generate four times as much traffic.

“Even after connecting connected TV, audiences are presented with a list of choices that boggles the mind,” said DTG chairman David Docherty. “If you think about mobile, apps have revolutionised mobile phones, because they are relevant.” He added that the experience needs to be more like a TV than a PC and should under no instance involve a firmware upgrade.
