With the launch of a new iPad later today, analyst Craig Cartier from Frost & Sullivan looks ahead on what is to come.
“Apple pioneered the tablet market with its original iPad model, and still leads by a hefty margin in market share. With the pending release of its next incarnation, the iPad 3, rumors have swirled regarding new features and technologies to expect. One of the more credible rumors is the inclusion of LTE wireless technology.
If the rumors are true, the iPad 3 will be an ideal showcase (and test) for the benefits of LTE. While LTE has been heavily hyped for its speed and seen as a piece of the solution for network operator capacity issues, one of the biggest benefits of LTE lies in its latency. Improved latency means greatly improved performance for streaming media, including voice, music, and video. What better device than the mutimedia-centric iPad to bring consumer awareness to this new technology?”
