Following grants from the EU and US, China now also approved the acquisition of Motorola Mobility by Google. With this final approval in the pocket, Google can proceed with its plans to acquire Motorola Mobility for its IP and probably put the rest of Motorola Mobility back on sale ;-).
Google is interested in the IP to protect Android and other technologies the company is using. At the same moment, the ownership of a device vendor is making partners like Samsung and LG nervous. The most likely reason Google is to sell of the hardware division to others.
China didn’t give its approval without having its demands. China obligates Google to keep Android freely available to anyone interested in it. Like competitor Baidu that just released its own Cloud Phone based on Android 2.3 without any of the Google Services. Google has to keep Android for free for at least five years.
