Mark Donovan, SVP and Senior Analyst at M:Metrics held his speech about the mobile market and consumer behavior. Also he revealed that male consumers are still the biggest group unlike most other reports say. The speech was mostly a rainfall of data, so my apologies if it’s a bit unstructured below.
Mark explains the mobile market has huge growth potential but is over crowded. Even though it is a global market, there are big geographical differences in the markets that exist today. Pay to play models still form a challenge to introduce in most markets and operators are the key point of control. Looking at the types of games that sell well, casual is the most important area.
Top downloading countries are currently Spain and the UK. In the UK and Italy however the most gaming sessions happen. Pre loaded games are played twice as much as downloaded games are. The number of downloading clients however is rising on a global scale. Successful moves to increase sales are try and buy versions and in-game advertisements for other titles. The US generates the biggest number of downloads. In Germany, most developers got desk placement. For consumers, the operator is still the number one spot for content discovery.
