New changes at the blog
October 23rd, 2006 by Arjan Olsder Posted in 1 | No Comments »
Today, our thanks go out to Ashu Mathura. Ashu, founder of this blog has now officially transferred it to me. As most of you already know, since a few months I have taken over the daily posting on the blog as Ashu is busy pioneering the mobile advertising space with his company called MaDs. This also means we have new Google ads on top of the pages as they now have to pay the rent ;).
Together with this announcement, I’d also like to say I’m happy to see the Blog is clearly rising in popularity. Last Tuesday we have almost hit 600 unique visitors in one day while we have a 400 a day average. Currently the blog is burning 6.5 GB in bandwidth consumption each month and also rising.
So not only thanks to Ashu, but also to all of you who show interest in the mobile games & gaming blog by commenting, contributing, sharing inside info or just reading!
Press releases accepted
October 5th, 2006 by Arjan Olsder Posted in 1 | 1 Comment »
We receive a lot of pressreleases about distribution deals lately. As most of you have noticed, we didn’t really pace them as we never felt like writing stories about them. However since today we chose to place them in the press releases category and post them just the way we receive them. So bring on your pressreleases!

October 4th, 2006 by Arjan Olsder Posted in 1 | No Comments »
SonyEricsson will open a content aimed retail store in the center of London later this year. The store will be mainly selling and sampling music and movies for their mobile phones, but gaming is only one logical step away.
From Mobile to X-Box

We found a post from Mark Ripley about his switch from pure J2me development to Microsoft’s XNA platform. At this moment, the market for smaller developers is really thin and as Mark explains, there are too many people ripping off the small developer which makes XNA a good transition. Expect more coverage about this soon

Review: Ninja vs. Sumo (publishers wanted)
June 13th, 2006 by Arjan Olsder Posted in 1 | No Comments »
It took them some time, but Itch Design finished their work on Ninja vs. Sumo today. The minute the game starts, you can already see the amount of attention this small studio puts into creating a game as you are welcomed by a cool, fully animated menu.
The game resembles the good old Dr. Mario, but with some added game elements. When you start the game, you have to select wetter to play as the Ninja or the Sumo. You battle against your opponent by playing away all the opponents characters in Dr. Mario style. Just like the real arcade fighters, your or your opponents health decreases based on the moves you make.
Ninja vs. Sumo is a great accessible game for all ages to kill those ten minutes in the train or those boring lessons at school.
Ninja vs. Sumo is available for exclusive publishing. Please contact ZizzleMedia.
Preview: Train Tycoon from Redboss
June 13th, 2006 by Arjan Olsder Posted in 1 | No Comments »
When I met Jan Rezab (CEO – Redboss) back in February at the 3GSM event in Barcelona, we discussed the wonderful Train Tycoon game on the PC which turned out to be a game we where both hooked on. Jan told me, he was busy to try and get the game running on a mobile phone. Though I had my doubts if anyone could pull that off. Now, four months later he sent me an early beta version.
The minute I got it, I grabbed my phone and started playing. The game loads up extremely fast on a SonyEricsson K700i and instantly generated a unique map to play on. I was amazed by the number of buildings and other graphics that where used on the small screen. There has been a huge attention to detail here I hadn’t seen before in similar games like Zoo Tycoon or Townsmen (Which are also great games).
Redboss really shows their experience in this game genre by creating a really solid gameplay experience even though the game is not finished by far. The controls are well balanced. A lot of mobile games suffer under the crappy keypads that mobile phones sometimes have, however the way Redboss interpreted keypad usage is really smart and intuitive.
As I said, the game is not finished by far. The Redboss team still has a lot of features to implement, however we are sure this game will be a must have to every strategy lover out there.

Where to draw line when street ads give you a ring
May 9th, 2006 by Arjan Olsder Posted in 1 | No Comments »
Great
article in the International Herald Tribune today on marketing from
actual billboards to your phone! It seems that in the next few weeks we
will be seeing billboards in France that are bluetooth enabled and will
send you more information when you come to close. You need to have
special software (download) installed on your mobile phone to recieve
the digital advertisements which makes it permission based for now.
People with certain kinds of phones who download a
special software program and say they want to participate will receive
digital advertising when the phone is near the billboards. Read on
