Bye bye Android Market, Hi Google Play

March 7th, 2012 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Distribution, Platforms: AndroidOS | No Comments »

Last night, Google introduced Google Play. Google Play is set to replace the good old Android Market. Google hopes this move to the new identity will improve the discovery of non-app related content.

Via Google Play, Google will put more focus on the various content types Google is selling next to apps like books, music and movies. Google will start pushing out the new Google Play app to all Android 2.2+ devices, meanwhile the Play service is already available online.

Consumer response in The Netherlands seems a bit divided. Though consumers thing the new identity is great, nothing changes to them as Google is still not able to sell books, music and video services in this country.
