Brew worth $ 1 Billion

March 6th, 2007 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: Brew, Research & Stats | 2 Comments »

Qualcomm, the company behind the Brew programming language, has
announced that publishers and developers of mobile games and applications have earned in total more then
$ 1 billion since the first commercial mobile application was sold back in
November 2001.

Now the data used is probably a bit lower as the calculations only include sales trough Qualcomm and a few Brew operators, which means off-deck sales for example haven’t been counted. With Brew used on operators in 31 countries, Brew is not yet the biggest, but still important to our market.

"During the past five years, we are proud to have grown the BREW solution into a global premier wireless data service, and the $1 billion earned by BREW publishers and developers is a testament to the innovation they have shown in bringing valuable, relevant wireless services to market," said Bob Briggs, senior vice president and general manager, BREW for Qualcomm Internet Services. "As QUALCOMM continues to evolve BREW, bringing our offerings and Signature Solutions to new customers and new markets, these same developers and publishers will be the lifeblood of BREW’s continued growth. We look forward to collaborating with them and continuing our mutual success."

Considering the path where development of mobile phones is going, profit will certainly grow
