Mobile Phone Gamers Outraged

Id software recently announced requirements for the greatly anticipated Doom 3, and outraged mobile phone gamers with their lack of support for the popular gaming platform. The Mobile Phone Gaming Alliance (MPGA), which hounds gaming firms into producing games for mobile phones, reported that 65% of mobile phone users were “outraged”. Siege gives the player the task of defending their castle against an evil enemy horde with story-based combat and a huge array of upgrades and game options available. Philippine Goverment Pushes for Mobile Phone Ban in Schools

In a move to curb gambling among students, the Philippines’ Department of Justice wants to ban mobile phones on campuses. How much do you want to bet it won’t do any good?

The acting secretary of the Philippines’ Department of Justice asked the Commission on Higher Education on Thursday to consider banning mobile phones from high school campuses in an effort to stop students from participating in an online lottery game called ending games, in which players try to guess the last digits of the final scores of various pro sports games. Ironically, one of the articles comes with an editor’s note at the bottom asking people to send in their comments via SMS — just not from a school campus, right? More …

After an expected seasonal drop during the first quarter of the year, the worldwide market for mobile phones returned to growth in the second quarter of 2004 on the strength of renewed consumer demand for mid-range handsets featuring color screens and cameras. According to IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Phone QView, worldwide mobile phone shipments in 2Q04 increased 2.5% over the first quarter and rose 36.7% year-over-year to 163.7 million units.

LG and Samsung both continued to execute strategies of rapid technological innovation, form factor flexibility, and brand excitement throughout the first half of the year. In contrast, the product strategy for vendors such as Nokia and Siemens remained fairly conservative, failing to match the aggressiveness of its counterparts. More …

Xyanide: “What a killer game this is”

I found myself playing this mobile game while I was sitting behind my PC!

Xyanide is an action game in which you control a man called Drake and his star fighter. Drake is supposed to be guarding a witch called Aguira on her way to her execution. An asteroid hits the spaceship during the transport and a substance called Xyanide, that can materialise thoughts, comes free. Aguira immediately uses this material to create hostile worlds between Drake and the execution ship. It’s your job to get Drake through this hostile mass of enemy spaceships to capture Aguira again and bring her to justice. More …
