The Angry Birds Turn Two

Rovio’s Angry Birds have a reason to celebrate this weekend as the franchise has turned two this weekend. To celebrate, Rovio and Chillingo have updated the Angry Birds and Angry Birds HD games on iOS with 15 new levels and a brand new orange bird to throw around.

HP Makes WebOS Open Source

The soap around Palm’s good old WebOS seems to continue at HP. The company has now announced that it will make the WebOS platform open source. HP acquired Palm and WebOS about one and a half year ago in the hope that it would bring HP the cutting edge technology they needed to become a big player in the smartphone and tablet markets.

Cheap Dual-Core CPU’s from Qualcomm

Qualcomm has introduced two new CPU’s for the production of cheap smartphones. The MSM8225 and MSM8625 both run on 1Ghz processors but have an Adreno 203-GPU which is less powerfull compared to the Adreno 205-GPU that is found in smartphones like the new Nokia Lumia 800 and the HTC Desire HD.

Nokia Intro’s the new Lumia 710

Following the successful release of the Lumia 800, Nokia has started to release the Lumia 710 in the APAC region. The Lumia 710 is the budget Windows Phone 7.5 device from the Finish company and will be hitting EMEA markets early 2012.

Rim Mixes BB OS and QNX Into BBX

At BlackBerry DevCon, RIM announced their newest OS called BBX. A rather unexpected move as most of the world was still expecting QNX (running on the PlayBook) to be ported straight to RIM’s smartphones.

Intel Drops MeeGo for Tizen

Following partner Nokia, Intel has now announced it is to abandon the MeeGo platform as well. Instead, it will be working on a new mobile platform with Samsung that’s called Tizen.

IBC: Liberty Global/UPC Unveils App Store Plans

Samsung Considers WebOS TakeOver!?

While Samsung’s Bada OS is slowly fading from our memories and the Korean government issued LG and Samsung to work on a new mobile OS to secure their markets, rumours now say Samsung is eyeballing HP’s WebOS division. A logical step as it would bring Samsung a well designed operating system.
