Asymco: iPod Touch Represents 37.7% of iOS devices

September 6th, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: iOS | No Comments »

Market researcher Asymco has calculated that at least one out of three iOS devices is not connected over 3G. Asymco calculated this based on Apple’s own statistics.

Apple announced to have sold 120 million iOS devices. From SEC filings, the company noticed that Apple had sold 59.6 million iPhones. The company also announced to have sold 3.2 million iPads. This means Apple sold roughly 45.2 million iPod Touch’s.

Keeping in mind that the iPod Touch doesn’t have 3G connectivity, just like a lot of those iPads, it is safe to say at least 1/3 of all iOS devices is not always connected to the internet. Asymco expects the number of non-connected devices to move toward 50%.

In other words, make sure your app also works without an internet connection.
