Archos Launches €99 ICS Tablet for Kids

March 2nd, 2012 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Smartphones & Tablets | No Comments »

Though we have seen a lot of sh*tty budget Android tablets pass our desks over the past 2 years, Archos has now announced a new one… one that’s for kids… and runs on some decent specs.

The new Archos ChildPad is outfitted with a 1Ghz CPU (probably single core though) in combination with 1GB RAM and a 7 inch 1024×600 capacitive touchscreen.

The version of Android 4.0 it runs, seems to be the regular open-source version. So no official Google apps on board. That doesn’t matter though as it is a tablet for kids and you probably don’t want that to access big parts of Android Market from the box…

So Archos teamed up with AppsLib to release a special app store for kids that has access to only 14 categories of the AppsLib portfolio. Next to that, the little tablet is stuffed with parental controls and it complies with CIPA- and COPPA regulations.
