With the first batch of Android ICS products on the market, it seems Google’s new operating system is running into a bit of trouble as reports come in that appls crash way more on ICS than previous Android versions.
The news comes from ZDnet where an editor tested apps on two different ICS tablets. The worst app (according to this editor) is Google’s own Gmail app that frequently crashes, even on tasks like refreshing the inbox. The new Chrome Browser also seems prone to crashing multiple times during sessions.
Though the editor displays very negative experiences with the ICS tablets he tested, comments show a lot of consumers that aren’t sharing the same experience as the editor. One of them even suggests hardware failure (i.e. overheating components), which could explain random crashes.
Of course, I checked with a few other ICS owners to get their feedback on the crashes in the ZDnet story. Though they do experience crashes, they are not frequent and often app related. With the Gmail apps, they haven’t had any bad experiences so far.
