Apple’s 13 Million

October 22nd, 2008 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: iOS | No Comments »

Apple has opened the books on it’s iPhone sales efforts. The company has managed to sell a massive 13 million iPhones, which means they could be the third biggest handset vendor in the world today.

Especially the launch of the iPhone 3G has given the sales a huge push as everyone wanted to have the device that was so hard to get for well over a year. During it’s fourth quarter, the company pushed out 6.9 units, which is far above expectations.

The iPhone also boosted the incoming revenues for the company. Revenues from rev-shares with operators and content sales brought in 39% of it’s revenues. The app store managed to generate over 200 million downloads to date.

The figures mentioned above are pretty impressive by themselves and show a great market for mobile games. But just like in bad commercials, there is more! The App Store public doesn’t consist of just iPhone owners, but also owners of the iPod Touch. Though we haven’t found any sales figures on that device yet, we do know that Apple sold well over 11 million iPods along their fourth quarter.

Does this mean that the iPhone might become their core business?
