Apple has planned a new event coming Thursday on which they are expected to announce iPhone OS 4.0. Analysts expect a lot of improvements to the homescreen as well as other functionality.
One of those functions would be allowing multi-tasking. The absence of that has been the primary complaint since day one but did allow Apple to provide a solid user experience. This choice was so smart, even Microsoft copied it to their plans for Windows Phone 7 Series.
The new iPhone OS will probably also support video calls which would fit well with the rumors of a new iPhone (iPhone HD) that would have a camera on the front side of the device.
Updates to the homescreen would allow the user to also store bookmarks to contacts on it in a similar way as bookmarks to sites can be stored on it. As that would limit the space even more, analysts also hope Apple will lift the 148 apps limit some way.
Congratulations
