Apple Testing HD Displays for iPad 3

July 19th, 2011 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: iOS | No Comments »

Apple is rumoured to be testing two new screens for the production of the iPad 3. Contenders for the bid to produce them are Korean competitors LG and Samsung.

Both displays in testing have a resolution of 2048X1536. That’s a higher pixel density than HD (1920X1080). Reason for this is the 4:3 screensize Apple wishes to maintain. If true, this also means the new CPU should be a lot more powerfull to support this screen and developers will be adding yet another screensize to their workflow.

Keeping in mind that Samsung has a conflict over the iPhone with Apple, it would be likely that LG gets the deal. On the other hand, there are much more Samsung parts in Apple products, so they kinda need each other.
