Yesterday, we wrote that research from the NPD group put Android ahead of Apple in sales for the US in Q1. Though such a situation might be right, Apple did take time to respond to NPD’s claim.
The Loop explains that Verizon is offering a 2-for-1 sale where consumers get a free second Android or BlackBerry phone with their subscription which has a huge impact on sales. Another thing to take into account is that the 3GS is getting old and consumers are starting to hold off their purchase until a successor is available.
Apple spokesman Natalie Harrison told The Loop that NPD gathered numbers from an online survey amongst only 150.000 US consumers only, which means it doesn’t mean Android is taking the lead on a global level (something NPD didn’t claim by the way). In fact, she notes that IDC’s numbers show that the iPhone is dominating global device sales.
So to conclude, NPD said that Apple has been taken over in the US only and 2-for-1 sales on Android and BlackBerry might have had a big influence on that. Apple doesn’t like it and responded (first time) to say they still lead on a global level according to another analyst, which is probably true as well. Does Apple feel endangered?
Congratulations

Its a serious news for Apple. Apple Responce as “only 150000 online users” how come 150000 is “only” its huge number for survey. Apple need to accept this.
