A group of three iPad owners have decided to start a class action lawsuit versus Apple because the device overheats too easy in the sun. As a result, they think Apple can’t claim that the iPad is an e-reader.
Apple has incorporated overheating protection in its iPad and iPhones that shuts down the device when an internal thermometer measures the device’s temperature goes over 35 degrees Celsius. The device does show a heating warning just before switching down.
The three owners have now sued Apple because Apple stated that reading on the iPad is just like reading a book while a book doesn’t shut down in direct sunlight under normal weather conditions.
When Apple first introduced the iPhone, the company was sued on similar grounds as it said that the iPhone could reach 90% of the web, while it didn’t work with Flash content.
Needless to say, reading an ebook is anything but the same experience as reading a normal book ant though it might cost Apple a few potential buyers, this lawsuit is not expected to cause any real damage to the company.
