Though the App Store was introduced as a development community like service, it turns out to be a real cash cow for. According to Lightspeed Venture Partners it brought in many millions.
The amount of revenue it brought in for apple lies somewhere between $ 20 Million and $ 45 Million. Given the various price points it’s hard to give an exact figure. Given the fact that this is just the 30% that Apple keeps, the company probably turned out between $ 46.6 Million and $ 105 Million toward the developers and publishers. Other revenue streams like ad sales are excluded from these numbers, as they don’t run over Apple. Given the fact that it will soon allow subscriptions and micropayments, the revenues are expected to increase even more.
For these estimations, Lightspeed Venture Partners estimated that 25 million to 60 million apps where commercial downloads. According to a survey amongst developers, the median price was calculated at $ 2.65.
