Adobe Announces Flash Builder 4.5, Touch SDK

April 11th, 2011 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial | No Comments »

With the release of Creative Suite 5.5, Adobe also announced the release of Flash Builder 4.5. With Flash Builder 4.5, development time of mobile apps should be reduced with 40%.

Flash Builder works with Actionscript and the Flex framework and allows developers to publish apps for iOS, Android and Blackberry from a single codebase. Adobe also renewed Catalyst, a tool for interface design.

Adobe also introduced Touch SDK which is an SDK aiming at tablet devices and other touchscreens. One of the big disadvantages of Flash on iOS according to Steve Jobs was the quircky support for touch interfaces. Clearly Adobe is listening.

Adobe also did some end-user announcements as the company released three innovative iPad apps. Nav uses the iPad as an extension to Photoshop allowing the user to switch between foto’s and tools on the tablet and thus saving screen estate. With Eazel, users can draw stuff and send that right into Photoshop. Adobe Color Lava is a more ‘industrial’ version of Eazel.
