Experts on the Future of Mobile Games Distribution

June 25th, 2009 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial | No Comments »

Multimedia-research-consultan The Multimedia Research Consultancy has released a new report. This time, the survey held amongst a mix of industry executives outlined the future of mobile game distribution and adoption of Social Networks.

According to the report, the distribution industry is at a tipping point. The classical operator channels will be replaced by vendor stores within the coming 5 years. 78% of the respondents claim that consumers will prefer to buy from the vendor in about 5 years.

Apple is clearly paving the way for this revolution as distribution on their app store is expected to double over the next two years.

Another area examined by this latest survey is the potential offered by Social Networking Sites (SNS) for selling and promoting mobile games. The results reveal that the industry is currently in two minds about SNSs – perceiving them as part mystery, part opportunity. Nevertheless, in spite of reservations, mobile games enterprises are planning to embrace social networking in their future marketing and distribution strategies, so much so only a minority will not be using SNSs in two years time. Once again we have identified those SNSs which will feature strongly in their plans.
