It's no secret that you can buy your way into the App Store by using clever advertising. Adwhirl, the company that specializes in in-game advertising on the iPhone, has investigated how much it will actually take you to get there.
According to Adwhirl, it will take only 2500 downloads a day to get listed in the top 100 of any popular category. The lead conversion rate for banner advertising is 0,2%. This means you have to acquire 1,25 million impressions every day for those 2500 downloads.
Most banners sell at 5ct CPC. Top networks generate a clickrate around 3%. This means your banner inventory will trigger 37,500 clicks. This translates to $1875 in advertising costs.
