HTC Sales Drop 35%

April 11th, 2012 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Research & Stats | No Comments »

HTC seems to be struggling to keep hold of their market share. Competitor Samsung seems to outsmart them in new devices and, talking about the Dutch market, in PR.

In the first quarter of 2012, sales decreased 35% year-on-year for the developer of Windows Phone and Android smartphones. In Q4 2011, sales also took a dive resulting in a decrease of 26% year-on-year.

These declining sales are interesting if we look at the effort HTC is making to differentiate from it’s competitors. It bought a fairly big stake in online gaming service OnLive and used that in the hope to push tablet sales. For smartphones, HTC invested in Beats Audio. A deal that seems to come to an end as the Beats Audio modus on the new One series is also working on non-beats headsets and new HTC devices won’t get Beats earplugs in their packages.
