Dutch Operator Launches its own Android

March 29th, 2012 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Analysis & Editorial | No Comments »

Dutch operator KPN has announced the launch of the new Smart 200 device. The Smart 200 is a new Android phone developed specially for the Dutch operator to cater to smartphone-unaware consumers.

The specs of the new Smart 200 are moderate, but it is interesting to see the operator taking charge of the market and supplying it’s users with their first batch of apps. KPN pre-installs 20 (mostly local) third party apps, but leaves the rest of Android 2.3.6 as is.

Back to the specs, the Smart 200 features a 2.3” capacitive screen and 5MP camera. It has Bluetooth, GPS, Wifi and FM antenna’s on board and comes with a 8GB Micro-SD card. The whole thing runs on an 800Mhz CPU.

The device will cost consumers €207, but is free with most subscriptions.
