According to rumours, Apple is no longer accepting apps on the App Store that require access to the UDID of an iOS device. Various developers reported the new Apple policy to Techcrunch.
Apple started warning about this change of policy about six months ago, but now they seem to have started enforcing them. Most apps use the UDID to identify their owners and serve the best possible ads to them. It also provided analytics companies with a great way to tie data to devices.
The move doesn’t come as a total surprise. In various markets, Apple is under fire from privacy watchdogs. This change might just give Apple an advantage in those discussions.
