Though Nokia has been stating it is not developing tablet devices, Marko Ahtisaar (the Nokia design chief) has said in an interview with a Finnish magazine the company is looking at the tablet market.
The designer said he is ‘working on it’, but Nokia is stating that the company is only looking at the development of a tablet, but not actively developing one.
Nokia developing a tablet wouldn’t be a big surprise. Though the market is pretty crowded already (mostly due to a single player in that market), investors probably want Nokia to join in.
At the same time, Microsoft is developing Windows 8 for tablets and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Microsoft finances development of the first hardware at Nokia. Since the Nokia deal, HTC, Samsung and LG have clearly lost interest in pushing Windows Phone devices, so why would they take risk in developing a tablet on a new OS?
