Playbook OS 2.0, Too Late?

February 21st, 2012 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: PlayBook OS (QNX) | No Comments »

The Playbook would be a game changer. Right now, it is reduced to an industry-wide giveaway. Still, RIM is preparing to launch the new PlayBook OS 2.0 on the device. The OS that will bring much of the features consumers expected at purchase.

With the release of the new OS, calendar, contacts and email is finally deeply integrated into the PlayBook system. RIM even integrated social networks like Facebook, which makes the new OS pretty complete.

More interesting however, is de possibility to launch Android apps on the device. We wrote about this possibility a couple of times before. This step allows RIM to quickly beef up BlackBerry App World with stacks of apps.

Still it’s not clear if consumers are still interested in the PlayBook by itself. This update features a lot of functionality that should have been there from the start.
