For all those that missed it yesterday, here’s the recap of the most interesting bits that Apple exposed during their WWDC event.
To date, Apple has sold 200.000.000 iOS devices. 25.000.000 of them are iPads. According to ComScore, iOS is leading in the US market with a penetration of 44%. Android goes second with 28% and RIM takes third spot with 19%.
15 billion songs have been downloaded over iTunes as well as 130 million iBooks. 14 billion apps have been downloaded via the App Store. The App Store now holds 90.000 apps for the iPad. Skype is still missing… Apple paid 2.5 billion to developers and earned about a billion with it as well. 225 million iTunes account have a credit card registered.
The new iOS 5 will be available to consumers this autumn, though developers will get early access as usual. In total, 1,500 new API’s have been added. After 100 billion notifications have been sent off, Apple will finally get rid of the annoying pop-ups and copy Android’s notification system. Furthermore, Apple shows it’s affection for the little blue bird as Twitter receives deep integration into the system.
Consumers will get iOS 5 during this fall. It will ship to iPhone 3GS, 4, iPad, 2, iPod Touch 3g & 4g.
